Fifteen hundred square miles of wetland once covered northwest Ohio — impassable half the year, drained between 1859 and 1885 by hand-dug ditch and clay tile. Ohio has lost over ninety percent of its wetlands, and most of that loss happened here. We live on its ground. This is the map of a landscape that no longer exists.
